Norwegian West Coast and Fjords: Tour ItineraryDay 1: Newcastle/Kristiansand
Overnight Sailing to Kristiansand arrving on day two at 09:15 hours.

Day 2: Hovden
133 Miles

A fabulous drive from Kristiansand through the southern forests and lakes of Norway to Hovden. Better known as a winter skiing resort, during the summer, the stunning scenery, with its mountains, open country, rivers and lakes surrounded with birch woodland provides the perfect backdrop for fishing, rafting, climbing and walking... or maybe just relax and enjoy.

Day 3/4: Eidfjord
142 Miles

Journey to Eidfjord on the E34, through tunnels, along winding roads and high into the mountains across the backbone of Norway down to Odda. From here Route 13 hugs the deep blue waters of the Hardanger Fjord which divides into about 20 smaller fjords of which Sorfjorden adn Eidfjorden are the best known. The scenery constantly changes between fjord and mountains, dramatic waterfalls and glaciers, fruit gardens and green fields.

For instant refreshment, stop at one of the numerous smaller waterfalls that tumble by the roadside and dare yourself to step underneath.

Once there, visit the Hardanger Folk Museum, take a fjord cruise for an unforgettable experience or visit the Hardangervidda Nature Centre. There's good trout fishing in the rivers Eio and Bjoreio and you can fish for salmon in Eidfjord Lake. The local tourist office has rowboats and bicycles for hire.


Day 5/6: Bergen
112 Miles

A wonderful drive on Route 7 following Samjafjord to Bergen. This ancient city looms large in Viking sagas and until the 14th Century it was the seat of the medieval kingdom of Norway. The Hanseatic merchants established a major trading post and the characteristic wooden buildings dominate the old harbour area.

Bryggen (the Wharf) is listed by UNESCO as one of the world's most significant examples of medieval architecture. Today it's a honeycomb of workshops and restaurants where you can savour the atmosphere, pick up fine clothes and dine on fresh seafood.

Visit the Bryggen museum with exhibits of ceramics, runic inscriptions and everyday artefacts of daily life in the Middle Ages.

Day 7/8: Stavanger
112 Miles

Enjoy the scenic drive down the western coast on the E39 through Stord and Haugesund to Stavanger. Old Stavanger is Northern Europe's largest and best preserved wooden house settlement where more than 170 houses built in the 1700s and early 1800s are preserved and renovated. Great bars, cafes and restaurants abound.

Lysefjord, an hour's drive east outside of Stavanger, is one of the most memorable experiences this region offers including the extraordinary Pulpit Rock. For a unique driving experience, the hairpin ascent by road from Lysebotn and the magnificent mountain ranges beyond is a classic.

Day 9/10: Kristiansand
156 Miles

A pleasant 4-5 hour drive from Stavanger to Kristiansand through forests, along fjords and past picturesque farmlands.

Discover Kristiansand. Great shops, good restaurants and friendly people. The old town of Posebyen has kept its traditional charm. Visit the open air Vest-Agder County Museum where original farm buildings have been reconstructed to give a taste of old rural Norway.

Only a 20 minute drive is Dyreparken, Kristiansand's living zoo with acres of gardens, amusements and a historical reconstruction of a typical Norwegian fishing village.

Please note that between 3rd July and 8th July'06 there will be a music festival in Kristiansand. This will possibly be heard from the rooms in this hotel.

Day 11: Depart Kristiansand
